Last Days of Summer Vacation

Friday, I start back to work, after a much need summer vacation, so the last four days have been filled with as much fun and relaxation as possible.

Monday, Aaron and I headed to the pool, which was fantastic.  We had the entire place to ourselves for about a hour.  Aaron swam laps, well circles and I soaked in the rays and floated on my back.  After a relaxing afternoon of watching some Netflix, we headed out on a "double date" with Jaye and Matt.  With our sun-kissed skin and my flower sundress we headed to Shuckers for a seafood dinner, pretending we had spent the day at the beach.  Yummy food and fantastic conversation topped off with a summery treat, ice cream from The Dairy Depot, all makings of a perfect evening out.

If you look very closely in the pictures you can see Aaron swimming.

Tuesday, Aaron woke up bright and early to work out and I decided to try a new standing ab workout. Oh my goodness I am feeling the burn today (Wednesday) and I can only imagine what Thursday will feel like (the second day is always the worst).  After lunch, I got down to business.  I was going to be making brownies for Small Group.  While they tasted fine, all but three were gone by the end of the night, they looked nothing like the picture.  The recipe said they would be fudgey and mine ended up being more cake-like.  Nevertheless, I enjoyed spending time in the kitchen baking some goodies for Small Group.

We also launched our Small Group last night.  We had 14 people to attend, new faces, familiar faces, lots of conversation, and an exciting year ahead.  Aaron is an amazing leader.  I am so proud of him, it is a lot of work being a small group leader, but also very rewarding.  We have an excellent core team and many friends and family praying for us last night.  I can't wait until next Tuesday night and all the others to come.

Lots of chatting and munching.

Wednesday may have been the most unproductive day of the week, but that's fine, I'm still relaxing.  Aaron left for a 6:30 coffee meeting with Josh followed by a breakfast meeting with Chris and in between, he sent like a million emails.  I am so grateful for the men who have come into Aaron's life over the past few months, they have been a great encouragement to him in addition to being some pretty awesome friends.  I woke up a bit later and headed out for a four mile run.  HAS FALL ARRIVED EARLY TO NC?  Slightly overcast day with the high in the mid 70's.  Glorious run for sure.  After Aaron got back from his meetings and a bike ride, we decided to cash in our PDQ coupon for lunch, BOGO on the combos.  I've spent the rest of the day baking blueberry muffins, with blueberries from our CSA.  Another great day in the books.

Thursday, date day with my sweet husband.  Thanks to a Cheesecake Factory Gift Card and one more day of summer vacation - we headed out on a date.

It was an absolutely beautiful day.

Crusted Chicken Romano

After a tasty lunch, Aaron and I walked around the mall a bit.  We stopped by The Art of Shaving store and looked around.  We had a blast looking at razors and smelling new shaving balms and colognes.  We headed home with a stop at the Seminary to look for a book for class, which was unsuccessful.  Aaron and I had a delightful walk before a dinner of leftover spaghetti and THEN... CHEESECAKE!!!

I have had a wonderful summer and am looking forward to the new school year.  Aaron starts classes Monday so he has one more day of summer vacation.  Until next time...

Saturday Shenanigans

So what do you do when you have a rainy Saturday afternoon and 10 tomatoes that are almost past their prime?  You make tomato sauce of course.

Beautiful tomatoes from our CSA.

Chopped and ready to be simmered.

Tomatoes simmering on the stove.

Tasty tomato sauce to be used this week in homemade spaghetti sauce.

I finally used the Kitchen Aid strainer that Aaron got me for Christmas two years ago.  Worked like a charm.

Day-Cation

With summer quickly coming to a close, Aaron and I decided to make a day trip to Wrightsville Beach. After a two hour drive, we finally arrived at the beach.  We enjoyed the sand between our toes, walks along the beach, and riding tons of waves.  Perfect day-cation.

Aaron and I are headed out for a day at the beach.

Middle lane - getting close to the beach.

Almost there.

Enjoying some sun rays before heading to catch some waves.

Enjoying the Atlantic Ocean.

Perfect ending to the day

Aaron has a week before classes start and I have four days before I have to head back to work.  We are looking forward to relaxing at the pool, enjoying meals with friends, launching our small group, and spending some quality time together.  Another wonderful summer together.
